O’Reilly filly tops latest gavelhouse.com NZ auction

A filly from the last crop of champion sire O’Reilly attracted plenty of attention in the most recent gavelhouse.com New Zealand auction.

Eventually knocked down for $23,500 at Lot 2, she was sold on account of Brighthill Farm and is from the winning Zabeel mare Rasasa. This the family of Gr.1 SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder and Gr.1 VRC Oaks runner up Thunder Lady plus the grand race-mare Fleur de Chine. She and the Brighthill Farm O’Reilly colt at Lot 1 who fetched $5,250 were bought by local buyers with Palmerston North-based Daniel Parry securing the filly.

“I have wanted an O’Reilly for some time and had been thinking about sending a mare to him.

“She looks a nice type, maybe a little weak at the moment, and will take a little bit of time but that doesn’t worry me – she will be ready when she’s ready.

“She also has the breeding on her side which is a major plus so we will get her home and see how she is and what we will do with her” said Parry who will entrust his trainer sister Deborah with her education.

In another pleasing result, all lots entered in the sale found new homes with this testament to the willingness of vendors to meet the market. View full results.

The site has now facilitated the sales of over 250 horses since its re-introduction to the market in an online auction capacity with entries now open for the next New Zealand instalment.
