Trainer Mark Young enjoyed a nice pre-Australia Day celebration on Wednesday when Lyrical Son, who is currently up for auction on gavelhouse.com, flew home to record his fourth career victory.
Stepping out over 2000m at Ballarat, Lyrical Son settled beautifully in a mid-field position for Brad Rawiller before being given the office in the straight to make up good ground and win convincingly with a length in hand. With the fitness benefit of a run over 2042m the start before, Lyrical Son clearly relishes a trip and with his good action and sensible racing style, presents as a horse that could be stretched out over further.
Having come through the race well Young commented “We decided to put him on gavelhouse.com as it’s the time of year where there are a lot of young horses coming through the stable as well as the yearlings soon so his owners are looking to cut back on numbers.”
“Lyrical Son has done a good job for us winning four to date and has pulled up from Wednesday’s run well. He has since been on the water walker and has licked his bowl clean”
“He’s a very straight forward horse to deal with and while we wait to see if he sells in the auction next week, we will continue his preparation towards the Colac Cup.”
An attractive son of Gr.1 Longchamp Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Dylan Thomas, the five year old has now won four of his 20 starts with a further eight placings contributing to his bank of prize-money that amounts to $63,805 to date.
