Lydia Pickford’s $1,200 gavelhouse.com NZ December purchase of an untried mare has proven an astute one with Classic Touch finishing a close second in Saturday’s Gr.3 Manawatu Breeders Stakes at Trentham.
The Guillotine mare was sold account of Flemington Farm having trialed three times and shown promise at Te Aroha in late October when she got away quickly and finished second.
Since coming into the hands of the Hunterville-based Pickford, Classic Touch had a win first up in the Murray Contractors Maiden at Woodville followed by another win at her third race in the NZB National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale 8-10 May rating 65 at Hastings.
Continuing to leave an impression with her recent performance at the weekend’s 2000m Gr.3 LJ Hooker Sales Team Manawatu Breeders race she led from the 800 and fought well to come in second to Mangaroa Flo Jo and taking her earnings to NZ$33,625 while also significantly boosting her residual value.
