gavelhouse.com NZ graduate Griffin won impressively on debut at Matamata today in the Don Griffith Trenching Ltd over 1200m for the Te Akau Slam Dunk Syndicate.
The brother to Te Akau’s Gr.1 One New Zealand Derby and Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas winner Gingernuts was purchased off the gavelhouse.com site last June for $90,000.
Sold on account of Taranaki breeder Chris Thompson, who has retained a 10 percent share in the smart juvenile, he was an exciting racing opportunity from the outset with a strong pedigree page being the son of Iffraaj and out of the five-time Australian winning mare Double Elle.
Griffin (pictured, photo credit Trish Dunnell) was purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis and is trained by the Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards duo with Stephen commenting, “He got to the line really well and, like his brother, the further he goes the better he’ll be.”
Now likely to spell, Griffin is one to watch in his three-year-old season.
