gavelhouse.com graduate takes Esperence Cup

gavelhouse.com graduate Scooner scored his most significant win to date winning the $70,000 Freight Lines Group Esperance Cup on Sunday for Western Australia-based trainer Stephen Miller.

Off the back of a narrow win at Pinjarra a fortnight earlier, jockey Chris Parnham found cover for the former Chris Waller-trained galloper over Sunday’s 2030m trip and kept him sheltered for a good portion of the event.

As the field travelled around the last bend and into the home straight the American-bred son of Mizzen Mast found his gap and dashed through the field in the last 150m, running clear by a length to win.

Last season the Stephen Miller stable trained 16 winners with Scooner his eighth of the season. Bought from gavelhouse.com for $34,500 in January last year, Scooner has provided a healthy return of $82,960 since his purchase.

Scooner joins Sacred Edge, Chez Dumont and Ballina Bay as winners sold via gavelhouse.com in the past week.

The next gavelhouse.com Australia auction is set to go live at 5pm AEDT tomorrow (6 March) and is set to close from 7pm AEDT on Monday 12 March. To enter contact the team on info@gavelhouse.com or call +61 3 9614 4882
