Darwin Cup bound Malmas wins first up for Laming

gavelhouse.com graduate Malmas shone bright under the Cranbourne lights on Friday night, winning in what was his first start for Richard Laming.

Purchased by Laming online for $30,500 from Champion Trainer Chris Waller, the imported son of Aqlaam found himself out on his own over the Cranbourne 1500m course, winning clear of the field by six lengths and earning more than half of his purchase price back from just one start.

With Chelsea Macfarlane in the saddle Malmas jumped to mid field from barrier one and moved forward steadily to make ground on the field. He challenged the leader from the 400m to take the lead and ran away from the field from the 200m mark.

Pleased with the result, Laming commented “Malmas is in good order and may have one more run before heading to the Darwin Cup, which he was specifically purchased for.”
