Two up and comers in the Kiwi sire ranks celebrated a milestone last week with the first trial winners for Charm Spirit and Proisir adding extra appeal to associated Lots in the current gavelhouse.com auction.
Tony Pike prepared a Charm Spirit (Pictured above) colt who put on a sharp display to win heat six over 610m at Te Teko on Tuesday while at Foxton Johno Benner and Holly Wynyard’s Alto Potenza, a daughter of Proisir, comfortably put away her rivals.
As a shuttle sire, Charm Spirit has already made a great start with his first two-year-olds to race in the Northern Hemisphere while Windsor Park Stud’s Rodney Schick is excited about his prospects down under “He has had 13 winners in Europe already and we are excited going into the breeding season here with almost a full book,”
“At this stage we have 125 mares booked to visit him this season”.
Set to sell tonight is Lot 23, Lavalliere who is offered in foal to Charm Spirit on account of Bradbury Park. A young mare by Medaglia D’oro, on Monday morning she was on the market at $14,500, representing great value considering Charm Spirit commanded a $17,000 service fee last season.
Rich Hill Stud’s Proisir is represented by an in foal mare at Lot 25 with Palin, a daughter of Pins and a full sister to multiple stakes winner Stickpin offered for unreserved sale by Monty Henderson of Bluegables Farm. Both of Palin’s progeny to race have won with her stock having sold for up to $140,000 through Karaka.
Karl Milahilievich of Rich Hill Stud, commented on Proisir “He’s had massive support and has averaged around 130 mares in the past three seasons with bookings still coming in at the moment for this season.”
“We’ve had great reports from the breakers about his first crop so it’s great to have that franked with his first trial runner a winner.”
“There are a few going to the breeze ups that we’re looking forward to seeing and we are very excited with the breeding season just around the corner.”
Two youngsters by Proisir are also up for grabs with a yearling filly out of stakes-performer Nancho Bella at Lot 8 and a two-year-old colt at Lot 12.
