Well-travelled gavelhouse.com graduate set for Kiwi debut

Richard of Yorke

Te Akau Racing’s New Zealand Cup plans with gavelhouse.com graduate Richard of Yorke kick off at Riccarton Park tomorrow.

The well-travelled galloper started his career in his native England where the son of Oasis Dream won two of five starts.

He was subsequently sold to Chris Waller Racing at the Tattersall’s Horses in Training Sale and was a consistent metropolitan performer for the stable, his best result a win over 2,400m at Royal Randwick.

Having earned $171,685 for his Australian connections, he was then sold to Te Akau Racing on gavelhouse.com in early July for $42,500.

Since his arrival in New Zealand, Richard of Yorke has had a trial at Te Teko on 13 August over 1030m where he finished six of eight and is the top weight in tomorrow’s Zacinto at Valaci Downs Rating 72.

Richard of Yorke will face an opposition of eight over the mile with apprentice rider Nik Baker’s 4kg claim set to bring some relief from his 61kg impost.

Two colts, full brothers to top New Zealand three-year-old Scott Base, are currently for sale on gavelhouse.com with bidding set to close on Monday from 9pm NZ time.

Entries for the next New Zealand auction close at 7pm on Monday 10 September. Enter online at www.gavelhouse.com or call 09 296 4436
