gavelhouse.com graduate Merrygowin strikes again in Hong Kong

Merrygowin

Almost three years ago the Hong Kong-based Merry-Go Lucky Syndicate took a punt, buying a trial winner in the very first gavelhouse.com online auction to fill their permit and have since been richly rewarded.

Bidding to $68,000 they secured the then three-year-old Merrygowin who had had two trials for Gary Vile, both at Foxton for a placing and then a win.

At Happy Valley on Wednesday the son of Castledale notched up his third career win and with six other placings from 21 starts from Paul O’Sullivan’s yard, took his earnings over HK$2.5 million (approximately NZ$470,000).

Jumping from an inside barrier among a field of 12 other runners Merrygowin was ridden forward by Karis Teetan and settled behind the leader for majority of the trip. The pair set the pace, two lengths clear of the field before Merrygowin made his move coming into the home straight to win by half a length.

Merrygowin is out of Sweet Fascination who is a full-sister to Group Three Blue Diamond Prelude winner and Group One Blue Diamond runner-up Brief Embrace.

A mare in foal to Merrygowin’s Group One producing sire Castledale passed in in the recent gavelhouse.com New Zealand auction with a reserve of $3,000. Click here for her listing page.

The latest gavelhouse.com Australia auction is online now and features nine racing propositions and three broodmares including two quality mares on account of Sheamus Mills Bloodstock.

Entries for the next New Zealand auction are due by 7pm Monday 25 February. For assistance listing email info@gavelhouse.com or phone +64226378127
