$2,000 gavelhouse.com New Zealand purchase Producer delivered on his name yesterday at Ashburton when breaking his maiden to win the Methven Equine Centre Maiden over 2100m.
Purchased in January 2018, the son of Per Incanto has now won over $16,000 for owner-trainer Kevin Moore of Rangiora.
“He’s our stable favourite, it’s been a long time coming,” commented Moore.
“He’s been knocking on the door for a while now so we are just ecstatic to get this win for our ownership group.”
Starting from barrier four with jockey Brett Murray in the saddle, the pair jumped to settle on the rail. The five-year-old gelding found a nice rhythm for when the pair made a move turning into the home straight.
Peeling around the field stepping to the front at the 200m mark, Producer continued to run the field down and win impressively by one and a half lengths.
“We will look to give him another two or three runs and turn him out for the winter,” said Moore.
“He’s not a wet tracker, so after a well-deserved break we will bring him back in time for some spring racing.”
Producer is by Per Incanto out of Testa Rossa mare Sivocci who is a half-sister to stakes performer Rossa Glory.
