Malcolm Boa has been in the horse racing industry for years and with the addition of some gavelhouse.com buys, he’s excited about the future and a change in direction at his Rangiora-based property.
“I have bred and trained Standardbreds for years and have trained about 30 odd winners,” he explained.
“I decided to give breeding thoroughbreds a go and the internet is great.”
“You can find everything on there and when I found Jungle Pago on gavelhouse.com, I really liked the family she was from.”
A winning daughter of Darci Brahma out of the Gr.2 Karakatta Plate winner Climb The Vine (Chanteclair), Boa purchased Jungle Pago from Novara Park in April last year for $500 as a two-for-one package which included her filly at foot by Jakkalberry.
“When she arrived home I was really happy with her, she was in great order and she is a pleasure to have around.”
Adding further appeal to her pedigree since her purchase, Jungle Pago’s second foal Torre Del Greco (Mettre En Jeu) has won five times and placed on five occasions to take his record to six wins, 13 placings and over $120,000 in prize-money. His most recent victory was an impressive performance in Wednesday’s Reefton Cup for top conditioner Kevin Myers.
“When Torre Del Greco won, Jungle Pago’s previous owner Luigi Muollo got in touch with me which I was pretty happy about.”
“He asked how she was going and said he has retained the two-year-old out of her by Sweynesse who is apparently a lovely type.”
Boa will take the Jakkalberry yearling filly through the grades and see how she goes while her full-sister Jakkabella is trained by Mark Oulaghan.
Jungle Pago is currently in foal to the young Redoute’s Choice sire El Doute, as is Boa’s other $500 gavelhouse.com buy Poetic Licence.
