Large unreserved draft from Waikato Stud online now


As part of their annual stock reduction, Waikato Stud have entered a sizable draft of 17 unreserved broodmares in the latest fortnightly thoroughbred auction.

“We have multiple branches from some lovely tail line mares, with many mares being bred from each,” Waikato Stud business manager Mike Rennie said.

“When it comes to our annual broodmare reduction, to make way for our retiring race mares and fillies, we’re only too happy to offer some lovely mares that gives others access to the families the stud has worked so hard to develop over the years.”

Some of the highlights include

  • Lot 33 – Celebrate (Savabeel). From the family of Group One winner Madison County and O’Reilly, she is the dam of Australian stakes winner, Pinzu and is in foal to Sacred Falls.
  • Lot 40 – Girls on Top (O’Reilly). A half-sister to Singapore horse of the year, Currency, this is also the family of Group two winner and Group One placed, Our Abbadean. She is the dam of recent Hong Kong winner, Gold Velvet and is in foal to Ocean Park.
  • Lot 45 – Miss Lioness is a half-sister to Group One winner and Champion three-year-old, Lion Tamer and group performers Let Me Road and Lubaya. In foal to Sacred Falls.
  • Lot 57 – Prickle (Pins). Stakes performed dam of Gr.1 Queensland Derby winner Brambles along with Lincoln Blue who is Group Three winner and Group One placed. Her recent Australian winners include Matamata and Grinzinger Brew. In foal to Sacred Falls.
  • Lot 66 Starry – (O’Reilly). Dam of Starrybeel who recently had an Australian racing campaign, she is a half-sister to Delta Girl who claimed Australian stakes success at two in the Widden Stakes with this the family of recent Australian Group winners, Adelaide Ace and Another Dollar, who is out of Make a Wish. Make a Wish had a $1 million yearling that has recently won a trial at two. In foal to Tivaci.

In addition to the broodmares, Waikato Stud are offering four-year-old Savabeel gelding Saving as a racing prospect. A winner over 1400m and 1600m in Australia, he is lightly raced having had 10 starts and being a gelding the stud has decided to give someone else the opportunity to race him.

Bidding in the 69 Lot auction closes from 7pm on Monday 7 July.
