gavelhouse.com buys pay dividends at Ready to Run Sale

Last week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale saw an abundance of great results for vendors, breeders, and pinhookers alike and this was no different for connections offering gavelhouse.com graduates.

Of the 257 two-year-olds that went through Karaka’s auction ring, 17 were also graduates of gavelhouse.com having been either offered while in utero, at foot or as weanlings or yearlings.

The lofty returns available were best exemplified by the Turn Me Loose gelding out of Bluemarju. Bred by Bella Vinci Ltd, he was purchased online in September last year for $18,500, before being bought for $42,500 in March at the Book 2 yearling sale. Having been broken-in and educated at Riversley Park, he breezed-up in a slick time of 10.16s. The end result was a $250,000 sale to the bid of Hong Kong-based Jimmy Ting.

There were also outstanding results for the progeny of a number of broodmares that were bought while in foal. In May 2020, the O’Reilly mare Miss Bondi, in foal to Per Incanto at the time, was purchased for $3,200 by Waikato veterinarian Jack O’Brien. Fast forward two years, the said foal sold for $320,000 (100-times more than the initial outlay) to the bid of Victorian-based trainer Liam Howley, again via Riversley Park.

A similar brilliant result occurred with Lot 168. Coincidentally in the same May 2020 catalogue as Miss Bondi, the Road to Rock mare Meritaggio was offered in foal to the latest addition to Cambridge Stud’s stallion roster at the time, Embellish. Bought for $5,251 by Sonia Waddell the subsequent colt breezed up in a brisk 10.38s for vendor KB Bloodstock to sell for $150,000 to Dan Meagher Racing (Singapore), becoming the second highest priced lot by the sire to date.

Earlier this week, New Zealand Bloodstock unveiled their catalogues for the 2023 Yearling Sale Series, featuring a further 50 gavelhouse.com graduates of which 38 Lots were sold while in utero, purchased for a median price of $10,750.

Be sure to check out the 14 lots currently for sale in gavelhouse.com’s latest fortnightly offering. Bidding closes Monday 28th November from 7pm (NZT).
