Placing a bid on gavelhouse.com is easy.

Step One – register on gavelhouse.com
The first step is to register on the site and verify your email address by clicking on the ‘Verify’ button in the verification email you’re sent after you submit your registration.

Step Two – complete your profile
Once your email address is verified, you can then go to the site and click on the ‘Login’ link in the top right corner of any gavelhouse.com page. The final step before placing a bid is to complete your profile so that we have all of your details should your bid be successful. are-you-planning-on-buying-or-selling-a-horseTo do this, once logged in click on your username in the top right corner and then click on ‘Settings’.

Once in ‘Settings’ tick the ‘Are you planning to Buy or Sell a horse?’ box and fill out the form before clicking the ‘Update’ button at the bottom of the page.

Step Three – place your bid
To place a bid, go to the Listing page of the Lot you’re planning on buying. Below the Lot’s photo is information on when the Lot is due to close, the ‘Current Bid’ and ‘Bid History’. If a bid hasn’t been placed on a Lot, the ‘Starting Bid’ will be shown which is the minimum first bid the vendor expects to be placed.If a horse is being sold ‘Unreserved’ this will be stated in this area in an orange box and if the horse has met its reserve ‘Reserve Met’ will be shown in a purple box.

To place a bid, click in the bid area to the right of the ‘Current Bid’ information and type in the amount you’d like to bid. The site will automatically calculate the minimum next bid amount for you so if this is the amount you’re willing to bid, you just need to click the purple ‘Place Bid’ button to the far right. Please note, there is no confirm your bid amount check point after this so please be sure you’re happy with your bid amount before clicking the ‘Place Bid’ button.

The ‘AutoBid’ option is a great tool if if you’re not going to be around your computer or worried about your internet connection reliability during the final countdown and don’t want to miss out on a Lot. To set an ‘AutoBid’ type in the maximum amount you’re willing to pay for the Lot into the ‘Bid’ area, ckeck the ‘AutoBid’ box and then click ‘Place Bid’. The system will then bid at the smallest increment possible to keep you in front up to your maximum bid amount and if someone matches your maximum bid amount, your ‘AutoBid’ will take precidence over their’s as yours was placed first.

Buyers bidding on multiple horses may want to use their ‘Short List’ page to bid from during the final countdown to keep an eye on all of their Lots of interest. To get to this page, click on the orange flag on the top right of your screen.

Successful purchases can be viewed from your ‘Short List’ page as can Lots you’ve missed out on.
